"On the Northern Front" is a composition by Bill Ryan for electric violin, nine percussionists, and projected images. The work was composed for the 2008 IPY events at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, and was premiered by acclaimed violinist Todd Reynolds and the GVSU New Music Ensemble. The work is the composer's response to the Alaskan wilderness photographer Ken Tape's images.
